To install HyperCard 2.2 on your hard drive, double click on the file called "Installer Script" and then follow the instructions on your screen.
INSTALLING HYPERCARD ON PERFORMA MACHINES
If you install AppleScript, the Installer will inform you that your machine must be restarted after installation is complete. On Performa machines only, you may encounter problems when you click the restart button. If you have a problem when you click the restart button, simply turn your machine off and turn it back on again. You will not have to reinstall HyperCard or AppleScript and your machine will not be damaged. HyperCard and AppleScript will work fine. This is not a problem with HyperCard or AppleScript.
NOTE ON USING HYPERCARD 2.2 FOR THE FIRST TIME AFTER SUCCESSFUL INSTALLATION
The first time you use HyperCard 2.2, it is possible that double clicking on a stack that you already have on your machine will fail to launch HyperCard, or will launch an earlier version of HyperCard. If this happens to you, simply open the HyperCard 2.2 folder. Once you have done this, double clicking on a stack will launch HyperCard 2.2
It is also possible that you will not see stack icons on the stacks on your system after you install HyperCard 2.2 for the first time. If this happens to you, simply open the HyperCard 2.2 program folder and restart your machine. After you have restarted, the stack icons will appear correctly.
NEW HYPERCARD FEATURES
HyperCard 2.2 contains many new and exciting features. For this release of HyperCard we have added several new features, including:
• Support for Apple's Open Scripting Architecture - This will allow you to launch, control and exchange data with any of more than 75 (and growing) OSA-Compatible applications, such as Claris FileMaker Pro 2.0 and Microsoft Excel 4.0 (applications must be running under System 7), using any OSA compliant scripting system, such as AppleScript or UserTalk. HyperCard is scriptable and attachable. Apple's own OSA compliant scripting system -- AppleScript -- has been included in this package to allow you to take advantage of this new feature right away.
• An integrated standalone application builder - This will allow you to use the 'Save a Copy As' menu command to build applications that other Macintosh users will be able to run on their machines without requiring HyperCard . Users can distribute these double clickable applications without any royalty fees.
• ColorTools stack - Using ColorTools users can apply color (using a 256 color palette) to buttons, fields, cards and backgrounds. It also allows users to import PICT graphics from the desktop, place them anywhere on the stack and resize them. HyperCard's ColorTools will support the display of 24-bit color graphics. It also supports over 20 color transitions to make solutions visually attractive.
• New user interface objects - HyperCard provides you with a number of new objects including: pop-up buttons, oval buttons, default buttons, button families, list fields and more.
• WorldScript compatibility - Use the WorldScript system extensions to help you create multilingual solutions that mix different character sets within a field. For example you can mix Roman and Kanji if you have the Japanese Language Kit installed.
BUILDING STANDALONE APPLICATIONS WITH COLOR
When Color is first applied to a HyperCard stack using Color Tools, a set of resources are copied into the stack. The copying of resources is not actually complete until the stack is closed. If a standalone application is built from the colored stack before the resources have been copied, the standalone application will not work correctly. To avoid this problem, be sure that you have closed and reopened your colored stack at least once before turning it into a standalone application. You should also be certain to set the default partition of your standalone application to at least 2 MB in order for it to display color properly.
